M is for Massage Time #A2ZChallenge

“Being touched and caressed, being massaged, is food for the infant; food as necessary as minerals, vitamins, and proteins. Deprived of this food, the name of which is love, babies would rather die. And often they do.” — Frederick Leboyer

When Mommy and I returned from the hospital everybody was talking something known as massage. I used to wonder what it is? Finally, after 2 weeks, a strange-looking woman came and started rubbing my legs and arms. As mommy could not get up from the bed due to her operation, this woman got the honours to do my massage and sometimes Miss A’s too. Within, a week Mommy removed this massage lady as Miss A told Mom that this lady had a very rough hand. She did not like the massage because her chapped fingers had pricked her soft skin … you can well imagine what I must have gone through on my extra soft baby skin.

After that Mommy took over the task of massage. Trust me she was so much better than that strange lady. I started loving my massage time. I got an opportunity to bond with Mommy. Before starting my massage, Mommy always seeks my permission by rubbing some oil on my tummy. When she does this I chuckle and give her a sign to go ahead. After this we drift into an hour of heavenly bliss. Massage time is our exclusive time, where she talks to me, makes me laugh, tells me stories and makes me exercise. After a nice massage or should I say a ‘Spa Session’, she gives me a warm water bath. By the time I am ready for the day, I get very tired and sleep off instantly.

In the evening I have another short massage session. This one is given to me by my Nani. Here again, I get undivided attention. First I become a rocket or a birdie with her. After I am done playing and exercising, she gives me a solid massage. She starts by oiling the folds of my thighs. Then starts the massaging of the back, shin, thighs and my soft-soft rounding up bumpies. She finishes by changing all my clothes and wrapping me up for a warm good nights sleep.

I have often heard Mommy say that a good massage helps to boost the immune system, improves blood circulation and relieves nasal congestion. Oh Yes! it also helps to relieve a bad-bad colic pain.

It’s way past my bedtime. I have already been given an evening massage my Nani. Time for me to sleep. Good night and see you tomorrow with a new letter story.

Well, about me I can say that I am a certified dentist, healthcare analyst, medical writer and above all a mother of a 6-year-old. Most of my day to day activities revolve around her and she is my inspiration to start this blog. As a mother, I experimented with a lot of new things for my little one in a quest to find the best for her. I just want to share my experiences of being a happy and content mum.

My first time here this AtoZ and that post was so cute! It had me going back to my own new mommy days. I did this with my first one, my mom bathed him. With the second one, I think we did not do such a good job! Poor thing:)

Massages are amazing for bonding and of course for the baby. When I love them I am sure Baby A also does. Its interesting how moms do the morning massages and nani th night one. When I visit my mom, she always does a massage for Little Miss A at night and of course she loves it

Massaging is the perfect time bond with the baby. Not just for the baby but also for the mommy, it is so special to share that one-on-one time with each other.

Massaging is a skill. I once had a horrible massage from a spa. I didn’t have the heart to tell them I hated it. Good that the baby gets to spend an exclusive time for massage twice a day. 🙂

My kids too had a massage routine. But my favorite time is when I am at my parent’s place. Both my kids, still like to get their massage from their nanu and enjoy the bath thereafter.
    A nice and informative post.

I did the massages for my infant. My in-laws wanted to hire a massaeur but I wasn’t comfortable about them pulling and stretching the baby’s muscles. My son used to giggle all the while. Lovely post.

My son loved his daily massage. He used to feel so ticklish and laugh uncontrollably and that would make everyone around smile and laugh too.
