R is for Rattles and Rolling Over #A2ZChallenge

Diaper pins and bottles, Rattles and bows, these are the little things that a new baby brings…

Yes when a baby arrives, with it arrive toys and other things. One such important and first toy for us is a rattle. These rattles can be of different shapes, sizes and different material. I also have two rattles (hand-me-downs though) and a story associated with them.

Most of us have heard the phrase, ‘Born with a silver spoon’. Well! I may not be born with a silver spoon, but I am certainly born with a silver rattle. Of course it is Miss A’s but now it’s all mine and only mine. When Mommy gave it to me for the first time, I had no idea what it is. She handed it to me in my hand, but that time I had a weak grasp and it fell off from my hand. However, Mommy or Miss A would be kind enough to make me hold it again. Now after days of practice and newly developed motor skills I have learned to hold and shake my rattle with ease. I like to play with it because whenever I shake it, the bells in it, make a melodious sound. The best part is that I always put the rattle in my mouth. Miss A finds this rather amusing and says, “Look, she has popped a lollipop in her mouth.” Yes, I do put it in my mouth and it creates no harm.

As for the second rattle, it is very colourful with different shapes and a big yellow sun. It has small interactive games as well. It does not make a sound but when someone shakes it, however, the sun goes up and down. Miss A refuses to give that to me. She says it is quite heavy and I may hurt myself if it falls on me. I am sure Miss A knows what she is doing after all she is my trainer.

Now let me tell you about the second R – Rolling Over! Last week I surprised everyone by rolling over. Mommy shrieked with joy and called everyone … “Look she just rolled.” Seeing her expression I did it again to make her happy. I amazed everyone as well as myself because I had a huge smile on my face as well.

You all must be wondering how I started rolling all of a sudden. Well, here is the secret … when I was around 3 months old, Mommy would often put me on my stomach aka ‘Tummy Time’. During that time I would try to lift my shoulders and head high with the help of my tiny arms. In a way, I was doing a mini pushup. These mini pushups actually strengthened my muscles which helped me to roll over.

I have noticed that since the time I have started rolling over I am not left unattended. I feel happy and often wonder why? Whatever may be the reason, I just love the attention!

Rattle and Rolling are the two integral parts of babyhood. Not all babies love tummy time but once they know how to roll back then they start enjoying it..As usual, a cute post.

That silver lollipop is adorable. Rolling over is a phase that requires constant supervision for the child could lose balance and injure herself. Glad she always has somebody around her to take care
