“Soft toys are great because you have the power to create their character and personality and best of all they keep their mouth shut”. – Sylversong
Each afternoon, before Miss A brings out all her soft animal toys, she places me with my chair on a mat. Then one by one, each one of them is introduced to me and simultaneously placed on the mat near to my chair … and then her talks/ stories start which seem to have no end. She talks about the weather, what all she has done in the morning, her breakfast and lunch sessions and many a times, she becomes a teacher teaching us all English and Hindi poems and even the multiplication tables.
Miss A’s furry friends are delightful and enjoyable. These are in all shapes, sizes and colours. There are many teddies, Jiffy, the giraffe, Silka the seal, Cammy the double-humped camel, a big Pooh bear, Gabbar the brown patchy dog, a spotted cheetah (that I don’t much like) Ellie and Dumbo, the elephants, (are just a few to name). I must say that she has been very generous in presenting Dumbo to me. When so many animals come together along with Miss A and me, we all have a lot of fun. Miss A sometimes says that it seems like we have a ‘Mini Zoo’.
Miss A keeps talking a lot about the zoo which she and Miss T had been taken to, to celebrate Miss T’s birthday. From time to time, she happily narrates incidents that took place that day at the zoo. Miss A knows many facts about the animals and birds. Each morning she reads out to me, something interesting or a new tale from her big fat red book on animals. Daily she ensures me that when I am a little older we shall all go to the zoo again.
Well, having a furry friend is a really nice feeling. I love to chomp on Dumbo, my elephant’s trunk and love getting hold of the bumblebee, then squeezing it from all sides, as though I’m crushing it before it can sting me (Miss A says that a bee’s sting is excruciating). When I am drained out instead of biting, I like to hug it. But let me share my secret wish … more than Dumbo I like Miss A’s Gabbar (doggie). I like to chew its nose as well as its tail; that’s why I always love to swipe it from Miss A.
When these animals are in my hands, I love their soft textures. I like to explore them through my mouth. These soft toys help me to strengthen my sensory skills. When Miss A and I talk about them, these animals help to enhance my emotional and social growth and my knowledge too (as till today I haven’t set my eyes or hands on a real live animal).
