When It Rains #WordsMatter

How do you feel when it rains? Do you feel happy or sad? Does it remind you of the problems in your day to day life? Do the rains teach you something … do let me know!

The met department had sent out a warning, that it would rain. However, the hidden message was the red alert which meant that the rains would lead to floods and disaster. And yes there were floods in most parts of Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka.

While we were given the red alert signal well in advance, we were still taken back by the floods that occurred in the first week of August. Though a day late, Pune was mostly flooded with constant rain for almost two weeks. It rained so much that the water from major dams had to be released, which further flooded the low lying areas. The schools also gave a week’s holiday as a precautionary measure.

Though when it rains’, it is literally a treat for everyone, with green pastures and colourful trees. There are different shades of green – every possible variant you can imagine. The past few rainy days taught me that we had everything like a phone – but no connection, ATM cards but no access to the machines, cars but still prisoned in our house. Similarly, even in life, we have days when there are times of pain, joy, loss and trouble. Whether we are going through a relationship struggle or a financial concern or an emotional outburst, life also takes us through turbulent moments.

To help bring peace and calm to the struggles we often face, here are some great rainy day quotes to help us remember that there is sunshine after every rain…

“Life’s not about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s About Learning To Dance In The Rain.” – Vivian Greene

“Celebrate the rain; it only means that the sun shall shine bigger and brighter than ever.” – Anonymous

“The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That’s a part of it.” – Denzel Washington

“Only a select few are able to see the true beauty that lies behind what just might seem like a rainy day or a grey sky.” – Jessica M. Laar

“The sun after the rain is much beautiful than the sun before the rain.” – Mehmet Murat Ildan

“As the sky opens after a rainy day we must open to ourselves. Learn to love yourself for who you are and open so the world can see you shine.” – James Poland

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” – Dolly Parton

“Don’t predict the condition of the entire day by the state of the morning. You don’t judge a book by its cover. A cloudy morning is no guarantee for a rainy day!” – Israelmore Ayivor

“The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually.” – Eeyore

“The person who dances with you in the rain will most likely walk with you in the storms.” – Anonymous

“Rain falls because the clouds can no longer handle the weight. Tears fall because the heart can no longer handle the pain.” – Anonymous

“A rainy day is an equalizer. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You just take what you can get.” – Charlie Harvey

“Some people are making such thorough preparation for rainy days that they aren’t enjoying today’s sunshine.” – William Feather

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.” – John Ruskin

These quotes just prove that there are many moments and challenges that come our way. This does not mean that we should stop. These quotes give a lot of inspiration to move on and never feel disheartened.

My favourite quote is “The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually.”  Do let me know which quote did you like the best or do you have another favourite quote. Do share with me I would love to know the source of your inspiration.

My favorite? I think it’s a tie between these two:

“Rain falls because the clouds can no longer handle the weight. Tears fall because the heart can no longer handle the pain.” – Anonymous

I love that first one about learning to dance in the rain. There really isn’t much one can do except try to enjoy the weather as it is.
Rains in Pune were frightening this time. And thanks to the school being closed we had to deal with a string of working Saturdays. That was a pain. Now that the rains came back after a bit of a gap I enjoyed them more.

the floods in the cities are man made disasters. It’s sad how the beauty of rain is marred by floods and bad traffic. Else, it’s really wonderful to listen to the sound of the rain and enjoy the greenery. Wonderful collection of quotes.

H.W Longfellow’s, “The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain”, is my favorite I’d say! We all naturally run into a tizzy if it doesn’t rain or rains too much. Not much is in our hands, is it? So better let matters follow their own course, when you do not have the power to control them. Lovely take on the prompt Shubhra.

I have been very lucky where rains are concerned. Blessed, when I see other people and their rain woes. I only feel sad as it gets gloomy and cold, and that feeling is not very nice. Loved your post.

I’m joining this blog hop for the first time. This sounds like a great way to discover new blogs! I loved all those quotes, each one more beautiful than the other. If we need a rainbow, we’ve got to put up with the rain. The rain might be a relief from the heat but it brings its own share of consequences too. Though the rains weren’t that bad as last time in my home state (Kerala), they did wreck havoc. Let’s hope that this trend of flooding does not continue in the years to come.

My parents who live in Pune told me that this was the worst monsoon ever. But I didn’t know about the week off ( they don’t have great grand kids or school going grandchildren so I don’t suppose this mattered to them). I remember Pune rains as always a very gentle pitter patter. This year the rains have really played havoc with our lives. My favourite quote is the same as yours. Thank God the rains do end!

You have chosen them so beautifully. My favourite was the best you can do when it rains is to let it rain. It has such a deep meaning. Instead of struggling and suffering through a storm, if we just let go and wait for it to pass, it makes it easier at least to a little extent.

Rain brings happiness to me. I always try to take bath in every rain of the season. When people hide themselves in rain, I go out and welcome it with open arms. And I feel these floods and every other disaster is man made, nature is not to be blamed.

For me its the Dolly Parton quote which sums up life so beautifully in its simplicity. I love the rains though yes it tends to bring us to our knees in every city of India that we know. This year the flooding has been immense and covered a large number of Indian states. Sadly this is all of our own making with the real estate greed of forests and natural resources.

Hope there is a rainbow out of all of this to soothe Mother nature.
