A Cross Connection with the Almighty

Imagine you calling up someone else and a new line of communication opens up with God! Have you ever thought about such an opportunity?

My phone book has many contacts. Some contacts are such, that I don’t know and I really wonder how they made a place in my phone book. Other contacts are such that I am familiar with them, they are of friends, colleagues, batch mates, classmates … thus an obvious reason to be in my phone book. Then some contacts have successfully made it to my favourites. Agree, they are there but I still don’t talk to them regularly.

Now there is 1 contact which is special. This number is my mom’s. I talk very often to my mom.

  • I talk to her when I am happy,
  • I talk to her when I am sad,
  • I talk to her when I want to crib about something or someone,
  • I talk to her when I want to know even the minute details like finding the ratio of certain ingredients in a recipe
  • I talk to her when I can’t decide what to wear

In short, I talk to her at any time and that too impromptu…

The other night, after quarrelling with my husband, I was quite restless. I kept tossing and turning in bed and could not get my self to sleep. I opened the window and let the cool breeze come in. As it touched my face I still lay wide awake on my bed glancing at the bright orange dream catcher twirling round and round above my head. It was past midnight and I couldn’t resist calling my mom. Finally, I picked up the phone and pressed 1 – speed dial number for my mom.

A strange ring went across and I heard an unfamiliar voice from the other end. On not finding my mom’s voice I was scared and gathered the courage to ask the unknown voice who it was…

I am GOD, came the reply.

I did not want to trust the voice, but something from within urged me to trust the voice. Hesitantly, I said, “Okay, I believe you that you are GOD and since you are the divine one, I want to know why have you not made everyone happy. Why is it so difficult to find happiness.

The voice smiled and replied, “What is happiness? Happiness is when a harmony is achieved between your emotional state and the spiritual self. I have ensured that each human is happy, it is up to them to realise this and find happiness within.”

Me: But, if each one is blessed with this gift, then shouldn’t everyone be happy rather than jealous or grieving.

God: Let’s talk about you, he said. Happiness does not come easily to you, because you dwell on the past. Just today you had a quarrel at home. Instead of letting it go, what did you do … you thought over it and then rolled in the past. You wished that if you could go back you would undo the reason because of which you quarrelled. This is like a big mistake which is growing with each day and will ultimately eat you from within. This is also stopping you to go ahead in life, to take up challenges and to be more precise to live.

Me: But how can living in the moment ensure happiness?

God: Living in the moment allows you to tackle each moment as it comes. In a bid to find the happiness you often miss the little moments and the potential of the day, which otherwise could have granted you happiness. Either you are living in the past or are busy looking for answers in the future. Living in the moment without even bothering for the next can surely take you on the path of happiness.

Me: I agree with you, that living in the moment and finding happiness in little things is the key to happiness. But despite knowing this why is it so difficult for me to follow it. On many occasions, I have tried to find happiness in small things, but then something bad happens which does not let me move on.

God: That is because you don’t count the blessings you have. You are so busy comparing yourself with others that you forget what you have. Life does look greener on the other side of the hill, but it is you who has to sit down and understand what is the motive of your life. You should feel it from within otherwise you will land up feeling empty, each moment wanting something or the other.

Me: But isn’t life like that, all about wanting something each moment. If we don’t do this then how will we know that our goals are being achieved, how will we set another deadline for ourselves?

God: My child, it is not bad to set deadlines or goals for yourself. But the greatest achievement is when you stop hiding from yourself and realise your worth. You have to find a balance between yourself and the others. You have to think about what is important to you, the outer world, which you want to please and get false happiness or your inner self which gives the ultimate happiness.

Now, I shall keep your call, as there are other curious callers and I must answer them as well.

Me: Wait, I am not finished.

God: Oh yes, my child, we are done for the day, remember in order to achieve happiness we need to cuddle each day and seize the moment, with faith and gratefulness. Now I must take your leave. Have a good night rest because happiness is just around the corner waiting to be found by you.

Strangely after the call, I felt much better. I thanked God for teaching me an important lesson about finding happiness within myself and in the little moments. Interestingly, life is all about living in the moment, for the moment and living as the moment comes.

Well, about me I can say that I am a certified dentist, healthcare analyst, medical writer and above all a mother of a 6-year-old. Most of my day to day activities revolve around her and she is my inspiration to start this blog. As a mother, I experimented with a lot of new things for my little one in a quest to find the best for her. I just want to share my experiences of being a happy and content mum.
